Plastic Product Design

At The Plastic Works, we specialise in vacuum forming, w here a sheet of plastic is heated and stretched onto a single-surface mould, and forced against the mould by a vacuum, enabling it to form plastic into permanent objects. As part of our services, we are able to provide plastic product design.

Computer Aided Design

Whatever product specifications and aesthetics you require, they are achievable through our use of CAD (Computer Aided Design). This takes your ideas from initial 2D conception to real life 3D. We can do this using any of your own ideas sketched out, a mock-up, or even just a description. We use SolidWorks CAD technology to create 3D models and technical drawings, so you know exactly what to expect.

Multiple Components

Due to our implementation of the Solidworks computer programme software, we are able to create pieces that consist of multiple components. We can handle complex assemblies, that combine more than one part, putting them together to make sure that they assemble together perfectly before any actual machining takes place.

Sharing Work

As we can make hardcopy prints of 3D models, and technical drawings, it’s also possible to convert your products into a easily viewable format such as PDF or JPEG documents. These are then easily shared, so you can communicate about your project via email. We are also able to offer a fully interactive stand-alone programme. This programme, allow the manipulation of the 3D model, so that it can be viewed from different angles, making ideal as a tool for use during project presentations.

Thermoplastic Materials

We have a large variety of thermoplastic materials, which have a range of characteristics, depending on the client needs. Our specialist knowledge of materials, processes and finishes, means that we can advise you of the materials that most suit you. Certain materials have better impact strengths, resistance to cold, heat and chemical resistance, as well as having colour variations and textures. We can help to create products for most applications using materials including those with properties such as ABS (flame retardant, antibacterial, varying gloss levels & textures), acrylic-capped ABS (for excellent UV and high gloss), polyethylene and polypropylene (chemical, resistance), polycarbonate (for high impact), HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene Sheet, for sanitary applications), and speciality materials meeting fire, smoke and toxicity regulations.

The Finishing Touches

After the product design has been approved by your company, we move onto manufacturing processes. We begin by producing a pattern from that CAD Data by using either CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) or traditional pattern making. The data is generated when creating the CAD model is used with a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine. Using the pattern / tool profile, a prototype is formed with the highest dimensional and design accuracy.

Bespoke Plastic Product Design

We provide a personalised plastic product design service, but we can also take this a step further by using any corporate or personal branding that you require. This is typically achieved through either embossed or depressed letters or images.
